Many General Managers/Dealer Principles don’t like to do an annual physical inventory in the Parts Dept because they believe it’s not worth the cost. Those same GM’s insist that that cash drawer/petty cash box is balanced daily. How much is in that cash box? $200? $300? Have you ever done the math on that? If your cashier is paid $10 an hour and it takes her 15 minutes each day, 6 days a week, to balance the cash box that’s $780 per year your paying someone to balance a $200 cash drawer! But that same GM won’t pay to have the $300,000+ investment in the Parts Dept checked on an annual basis. If that makes sense to anyone out there please let me know.
